The facade of the museum features images of Vincent van Gogh and one of his most famous works, “Sunflowers”. The museum consists of two buildings: the “Rietveld Building” and the “Kurokawa Wing.”
Kurokawa Wing
The three-story building is used for major temporary exhibitions. It is connected to the main building by an underground hall.
Rietveld Building
The main building of the museum houses the permanent collection. It is cube-shaped with four floors. The ground floor includes a shop, a café, and an introductory exhibition.
Hall Between the Buildings
The glass corridor between the buildings is designed to evoke a sense of anticipation and mystery for visitors walking through.

Museum Collection
The paintings in the Van Gogh Museum are created using paint, pastels, and oils. A large collection of engravings is also presented.
The permanent collection tells the story of different aspects of Van Gogh’s life and creativity. The collection features many of his iconic works, including The Potato Eaters, The Bedroom in Arles, and one of three versions of Sunflowers.
The museum also organizes exhibitions on the history of 19th-century art.
Biography
Life
Van Gogh was born in the Netherlands into a large family, but his relationship with them was strained. His younger brother Theo was his sole support.
The Severed Ear
The most popular theory: After a heated argument with artist Paul Gauguin, Van Gogh cut off his own ear in a fit of madness, ultimately ending up in a hospital.
Health
Van Gogh experienced several episodes of psychotic breakdowns and mental instability, especially in the final years of his life.
Death
On July 27, 1890, at the age of 37, Van Gogh shot himself in the chest with a revolver and died the next day from the wound.
